Cookie Policy – Disclosure

Fulfilling our obligations under Art. 10 of Directive n. 95/46/EC, Directive 2002/58/EC, as updated by Directive 2009/136/EC, Article 13 of Legislative Decree n. 196 of 30 June 2003, and the general measure (web doc. n. 3118884) of the Authority for the protection of personal data, published in the Gazzetta Ufficialen. 126 of 3 June 2014, record of measures n. 229 of 8 May 2014 regarding Cookies, we proceed with the disclosure related to those themes.

What are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are installed on your computer, smart phone, or tablet when surfing the web. The sites you have visited send cookies to your browser (such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Opera) which stores them and then re-transmits them to the websites on subsequent visits. Cookies may also be sent to your browser by third parties, which means that while browsing a specific website, elements from other sites may be present that have cookies, such as images, sounds , maps, and links to other pages.

Specific types of user data are stored, depending on the type of cookie and its intended use, for example, to make using a site more efficient, to enable specific functionalities, or to monitor page activities during user sessions.

In particular, cookies can store user preferences, thus eliminating the need to repeatedly enter the same information during navigation (such as your username and password), as well as permit the analysis of the services used and content provided by a website in order to optimize the browsing experience and services offered.

Types of Cookies

Cookies are divided into two macro-categories: Technical Cookies and Profiling Cookies.

Technical cookies, usually installed by the owner or operator of a website, are used “for the sole purpose of transmitting a communication on an electronic communications network or, as strictly necessary, for sending to the provider of a service of a company the information explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to deliver that service” (see Art. 122, paragraph 1 of the Italian Privacy Code).

For the installation and use of technical cookies, the prior consent of the person involved is not required.

Technical cookies are further subdivided into the following types:

  • browsing or session cookies , which guarantee normal browsing and use of the web site permitting users, for example, to make purchases or to authenticate themselves in order to access restricted areas. These cookies are not stored permanently on the user’s device and are deactivated automatically when the browser is closed. Their use is linked to the transmission of identifying data needed to allow secure and efficient navigation of the pages. Session cookies do not in any way allow the acquisition of the user’s personal identification data;
  • cookie analytics, which are used to anonymously collect information on the use of the site and create statistical analyses of both page views and user behavior. This anonymous analysis provides information and suggestions for improving site quality and making more frequently searched contents more easily available to users. Cookie analytics can be sent from either the site or from third-party domains, and do not in any way permit the acquisition of personal identification data. Cookie analytics, even though they collect data anonymously, shall be treated as profiling cookies if installed by third parties (ex. Google analytics), as indicated by the Italian data protection Authority;
  • functionality cookies: which are treated as technical cookies when used directly by the site operator to collect aggregate information on the number of users and how they visit the site. These cookies allow the user to browse based on a set of selected criteria (for example, language, products selected for purchase) in order to improve service.>

Profiling cookies are used to create user profiles and to send advertising that is aligned with the user’s preferences manifested while navigating on the Internet. These cookies are particularly invasive to user privacy; for this reason, European and Italian regulations require that the user be adequately informed regarding their use so that they are able to express their consent. Article. 122 of the Italian Privacy Code provides that “the storage of information in the user or subscriber’s terminal equipment, and access to already-stored information, are only allowed on condition that the user or subscriber has given their consent after having been informed by the simplified procedures referred to in Article 13, paragraph 3 of the Privacy Code.”
